“Fragile” by Bo Ramsey (Rock artist from Iowa (IA))

"Fragile" by Bo Ramsey is an excellent Americana, folk rock CD full of tracks that paint vivid pictures around Bo's excellent songwriting. Bo's deep, raspy vocals nicely stand out in the mix and softly, yet effectively deliver the powerful lyrics on this CD. As you would expect from an artist with Bo's impressive credentials, this CD is totally pro in musicianship and production. The music features Bo's outstanding, yet subtle guitar work. The production nicely layers the instrumentation to provide a rich, deep sound. The tracks that we checked out have an ambience of a smoke-filled room and a man who has been there and done that. "Tell Me Now" features some nice electric guitar licks, and a powerful, visual lyrical message that paints a gloomy picture. "Burn It Down" features an interesting tremolo guitar sound, outstanding songwriting and a passionate vocal performance that effectively delivers the strongly visual lyrics. If you enjoy Americana and/or adult folk rock, and the work of master songwriters, you'll enjoy this CD.

"The Fortune Teller" by Too Slim and The Taildraggers (Rock Artist from Washington(WA))

"The Fortune Teller" by Too Slim and The Taildraggers is a dirty alternative rock album with a flavorful southern flair. The songs tell stories and the guitars are big and raunchy. The sound has an instant listen-ability, and you will find yourself singing along to the well-layered choruses. These guys don't just stick to the basics though. Each song has its own unique identity, personality, and instrumental variance. All the while, the band still manages to adhere to a 'signature sound' throughout. Highlights include "Mexico," with its standout lead and backup vocals, and its interesting and innovative addition of steel drums. "She Gives Me Money" features a fantastic slide guitar riff and nice throaty vocals. "Spell On Me" has a catchy beat, more good slide guitar and a slithery feel. If you like Creedence Clearwater Revival and Stevie Ray Vaughan, you'll like this one.

"Work In Progress...." by Antagònics (Rock artist from Spain)

"Work In Progress...." by Antagonics is a Spanish alternative rock album that combines a gritty punk sound with beautiful, catchy melodies. The sound of this band is unique in that it draws its power from both rebellion and sensitivity. Some songs are purely edgy and rebellious in nature, while others lean more toward the emo side of the rock spectrum. The arrangements are solid and air-tight, with interesting changes and creative progressions. The vocals are best described as 'just right' - well delivered and well paced. The opener, "Obre Els Ulls," stands out as an in-your-face dirge with a strong classic punk sound. The vocals are angry, and so are the guitars. "Rebel" takes a different approach with a driving rhythm, nice piano progression, and a heartfelt vocal performance. "Freedom" opens with drums and a creepy guitar swell, quickly turning into a real fist-pumper. If you like Pixies or Rage Against the Machine, you'll enjoy this CD.

"Sometime" by Matthew Hill is a memorable alternative rock album with an urban undertone. There is a noticeable punk-pop influence in the sound. Moreover, the songs are very catchy, flaunt an appealing rebellious intensity, and are generally positive. Matthew's voice is very distinct and has a passionate tremble to it, which nicely compliments his soulful lyrics. Musically, this CD also stands out with arrangements that are quirky and air-tight. The opener, "Love on My Side," has a great hook, unique vocal delivery, and is just plain catchy. "Dear Me" starts off vengefully, with a hot guitar riff and punchy vocals. There are some nice vocal harmonies in the chorus as well. The title-track settles things down a bit with a few chords on the guitar, a simple beat, and a heart-felt vocal performance. If you like Adam Ant and The Beatles, you'll like this one.
