"The Mask" by Ebbandflow (Progressive Rock Artist from Spain)

"The Mask" by Ebbandflow is an experimental progressive rock album brought to you by eight fine musicians. This album is an array of sounds presented in an array of styles. There is a strong Middle Eastern influence present throughout the album, but you could say it is jazzy, ambient rock for the most part. The arrangements are lively, well-layered and complete, with great musicianship. One standout track is "Through all This Rain". It opens with some soothing sax and explodes into a big rock number. "I Need You" exhibits the greatest eastern influence, with nice tabla and devious guitar work. "The Mask Part 3" is ambient and airy and features a strong vocal performance. If you like Pink Floyd or Dead Can Dance, you will like this one.

"As We Please" by Vast Countenance (Rock Artist from the Netherlands)

"As We Please" by Vast Countenance combines classic Brit rock sounds with a twist of alternative. The band is from Amsterdam and their influence of sixties bands is very apparent on this CD. The bottom line is that there are some memorable songs on this album. The band flaunts excellent songwriting skills with effective rock grooves that build to catchy melodic choruses. The vocals on the CD are well harmonized and the lead singer has an excellent rock voice: Very distinct and emotional. The production and instrumentation on the CD are straight-up rock and roll, which is very effective for these tracks. "Trumpet Slide" is a song that really raised our eyebrows on this album. The song has a more modern rock marching groove with U2-like melodic vocals and a nice build to a memorable chorus. "Clay" is a heart-felt acoustic number. "Swimmer Song" features fuzz guitar and raw power. If you like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and The Velvet Underground, you will enjoy this one.

"Chronology of Chaos" by Skovol Unit (Rock Artist from Indiana(IN))

"Chronology of Chaos" by Skovol Unit is a huge 2 disc compilation and is the history of this punk/metal/electro band. It starts with 4 track demos and takes you chronologically through the life of the band, in a very interesting look at the progression of a band. This is some old school stuff with impressive guitar licks. They have a true garage punk sound and sensibility with wild rhythm changes, complex timing, and "in your face" lyrics. Early songs like "Equal Opportunity Destroyer" are examples of their loud mosh pit sound. Later songs like "Something Else" transition into melody and polished sound. There is also a cool home guitar called "Battle of the Wolf 359". If you like Iron Maiden and Descendents, you will like this one.

"Tight Turns in the Sunset" by Mark St. John (Rock Artist from Connecticut(CT))

"Tight Turns in the Sunset" by Mark St. John is an adult rock and alt-country crossover album complete with twang and lots of fun. Mark's voice is playful and raw, with a quality that reminds us of Mark Knopfler. The overall sound is "Old School" with clean yet gritty guitar riffs and a down home sound provided in part on some tracks by banjo. The songwriting makes effective use of repeating memorable melodic patterns that sometimes include a Lou Reed-type singing/talking style. You get more bang for your buck on this album with 17 tracks. The title track "Tight Turns in the Sunset" features some creative lyrics and fun "Woo Hoos." "The Girl She Looks So Fine" pays homage to Stevie Wonder's "Roller Coaster". "New York Behind Bars" by Ronnie Kelly (Adult Rock artist from New Jersey (NJ))

"New York Behind Bars" by Ronnie Kelly took us on an emotional journey of interesting stories written this Dublin born Singer/Songwriter. This album does a great job of showcasing Ronnie's strong songwriting skill and passionate vocals. Most of the album features acoustic guitar and vocals, and adds in some other interesting acoustic instruments. The lyrics on the CD are very personal yet are relevant for all of us. The relatively simple instrumentation and production allows Ronnie's visual and emotional songwriting to effectively paint musical scenes. "Down the Right Road" builds into a strong full-band groove and features well-blended harmonies. "Francis Hughes" nicely blends in bagpipe with string arrangements. "I Was There" is an emotional number that hits the heart of anyone who has been faced with substance abuse directly or through a friend. "Second Avenue Serenade" by Laslo Cameo is an enjoyable Americana CD. The music on this CD is tight with very professional musicianship throughout. The alternating male and female leads on the tracks keep the songs on the CD sounding fresh, as does the varied styles from modern country, to blues, to adult rock. The clean recording quality is totally pro and very well-suited for this genre.
