"As We Please" by Vast Countenance (Rock Artist from the Netherlands)

"As We Please" by Vast Countenance combines classic Brit rock sounds with a twist of alternative. The band is from Amsterdam and their influence of sixties bands is very apparent on this CD. The bottom line is that there are some memorable songs on this album. The band flaunts excellent songwriting skills with effective rock grooves that build to catchy melodic choruses. The vocals on the CD are well harmonized and the lead singer has an excellent rock voice: Very distinct and emotional. The production and instrumentation on the CD are straight-up rock and roll, which is very effective for these tracks. "Trumpet Slide" is a song that really raised our eyebrows on this album. The song has a more modern rock marching groove with U2-like melodic vocals and a nice build to a memorable chorus. "Clay" is a heart-felt acoustic number. "Swimmer Song" features fuzz guitar and raw power. If you like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and The Velvet Underground, you will enjoy this one.
